GORAKHPUR: In an act of revenge over body-shaming, two youths were shot at by a man after they allegedly mocked him by calling him "fat" during a feast in Gorakhpur. On complaint about the Thursday night incident police lodged FIR at Khajni police station and arrested the accused late Friday.
According to police, Arjun Chauhan, resident of Belghat police station area, was attending a community feast near Tarkulha Devi Temple along with his uncle.
During the event, two other guests — Anil Chauhan and Shubham Chauhan from Manjhariya — allegedly mocked his weight, calling him "motu" (fatso). Although others tried to defuse the situation, the comment left Arjun seething with rage. Later, Arjun with his friend Asif Khan followed the pair on the highway and after an initial failed attempt, managed to overtake their car near the Tenua toll plaza on the Jagdishpur-Kalesar bypass.
Arjun confessed that he and his friend intercepted Anil and Shubham's car, dragged both youths out by their collars and opened fire at them and fled after the attack. Passersby rushed the injured youths to the district hospital, from where they were referred to Gorakhpur Medical College and both are now out of danger.
Superintendent of Police, South, Jitendra Kumar confirmed that based on a complaint by Shubham's father, FIR was registered. The accused were nabbed and a countrymade pistol was recovered from their possession.
