Sonam Kapoor, the 39-year-old Indian actress, was mourning following the demise of her grandmother, Nirmala Kapoor, on Saturday during the last rites in Mumbai. In the viral video on social media, while paying respects, Kapoor was visibly heartbroken and teary-eyed, along with the family members, including Arjun Kapoor.

In the Instagram video, Sonam Kapoor emotionally walked away from the decorated ambulance of the late Nirmal Kapoor and was trying to get into a car to proceed to the last rites. Besides Sonam, other members of the Kapoor clan who were visibly present during the funeral were Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Harshvarrdhan Kapoor, Sunita Kapoor, Maheep Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Arjun Kapoor, Anshula Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and her husband Karan Boolani.

Other celebrities who attended the last rites

Other B-Town celebrities who attended the funeral at the Vile Parle Crematorium, Pawan Hans, Mumbai, were Anupam Kher, Karan Johar, and Shyam Kaushal, amongst others. Shikhar Pahariya also attended the last rites to pay respects and console his girlfriend during the difficult times.

Last night, the family shared an official statement upon passing of the beloved member of the family. “Passed away peacefully on the 2nd of May, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. She lived a full and joyful life, leaving behind four devoted children, loving daughters-in-law, a caring son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a lifetime of treasured memories."
“Her generous spirit and boundless love touched all who knew her. She will remain in our hearts–forever cherished, forever missed. Boney, Anil, Reena, Sanjay, Sunita, Sandeep, Maheep, Mohit, Akshay, Sonam, Arjun, Rhea, Harsh Varrdhan, Anshula, Janhvi, Shanaya, Khushi, Jahaan, Antara, Anand, Aashita, Karan Thea, Vayu, Ayra, Yuvaan,” the message continued.
