Lionel Messi is all set to make his comeback to playing for Argentina as the team has chosen him for their upcoming fixtures against Chile and Colombia. The 37-year-old forward had to skip the March games because of an adductor injury, but is now back with the team after making a full recovery. The world champions already made sure they'd go to the 2026 tournament, even though Messi didn't play, with wins over Uruguay and Brazil. This shows how much the Argentina captain wanted to play again for his country after being out for a short while because of an injury.

Argentina has a very strong team for its important games

The Argentina national team shared a list of 28 players who will join the squad, with Inter Miami striker Lionel Messi being the main name and captain. Coach Lionel Scaloni picked Alejandro Garnacho to be in the Argentine team again because he considers him a good player and wants to use his skill in the squad. The 19-year-old's return is taking place when Scaloni is looking to mix things up by giving some of his younger players a chance while still keeping some more experienced ones involved. However, the team will have some tough times as defenders Nicolas Otamendi and midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Leandro Paredes are not allowed to play in the first game because they were banned. The injured Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Montiel are also not in the team.

A busy schedule ahead for Lionel Messi

The defending champions will go to Chile on June 5, where they are currently in last place in the South American group. They will then go up against Colombia, who are right now sixth in the group, in Buenos Aires on June 10. Argentina is currently leading the CONMEBOL qualifiers with 31 points after playing 14 games, winning 10 out of those matches.
After playing in the international matches, Lionel Messi is now going back to the United States to play the first game of the FIFA Club World Cup. Inter Miami will play against the Egyptian team Al Ahly on June 14 in Miami, so the team won’t have much time to rest before the game. This busy June period will mean Messi has a lot of games coming up for his country and club, which will really put his fitness to the test.
