US President Donald Trump expressed sympathy for Joe Biden following the former US president’s recent prostate cancer diagnosis, sharing a message of support on his Truth Social account.“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery,” Trump wrote.
The relationship between Trump and Biden has been fraught with tension for years. Trump has frequently referred to Biden as “sleepy Joe” or “crooked Biden,” often questioning his physical and mental fitness due to his age. Many Republicans have also criticised Biden as unfit to have run for president, pushing instead for Kamala Harris to be the Democratic candidate.Despite the longstanding rivalry and political jabs, Trump extended his support on behalf of himself and the first lady, Melania Trump, to Biden and his family. This comes amid reports that Biden’s aggressive prostate cancer has spread to his bones, as confirmed by his office.Biden’s diagnosis followed medical tests prompted by urinary symptoms. During a routine physical exam, doctors found a small nodule on his prostate, leading to additional investigations. By Friday, it was confirmed that Biden has prostate cancer, which has already spread to his bones. His office stated that, although the cancer is aggressive, it is hormone-sensitive and can be managed effectively. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” the statement added.
