'This is a distress call': What ex-Karnataka DGP Om Prakash's wife Pallavi posted on WhatsApp group days before murder
BENGALURU: Former DG & IGP Om Prakash was murdered by his wife, Pallavi, at their residence in HSR Layout on Sunday.
Investigators said Pallavi had earlier raised allegations of domestic violence against her husband and had even sent a distress message to a WhatsApp group of IPS officers.
Pallavi requested in the message that a suo motu case be registered and action be taken against her husband
“This is a distress call from Pallavi Omprakash. An online FIR from me. Please take suo motu cognizance and action. My daughter and I have been under severe domestic violence at the hands of my husband Om Prakash, Ex-DGP Karnataka,” read Pallavi’s message in the group, as confirmed by senior officers.
After killing her husband, Pallavi texted one of her friends — the wife of a retired IPS officer — and claimed she had "killed the monster."

She then made a video call to show Prakash’s body lying in a pool of blood. She also informed two other individuals about the murder, one of whom alerted police helpline 112.
Before the Hoysala police patrol team arrived at the scene, Pallavi herself had called the HSR Layout police station and confessed to the murder.
Sequence of the crime
According to police, Pallavi attacked the 70-year-old retired IPS officer by first throwing chilli powder into his eyes and then repeatedly stabbing him with a kitchen knife.
According to sources, Om Prakash struggled on the floor for over 15 minutes before succumbing to his injuries. Two bottles — one of toilet cleaner and another of floor cleaner — were found next to his body.
Investigators suspect that in a bid to escape, Prakash tried to run outside, but Pallavi allegedly threw a blanket over him, pinned him down, and stabbed him multiple times in the neck, shoulder, abdomen, and back.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case, including reviewing the domestic violence claims and Pallavi’s mental health history.
