Majestic, Sir MV Metro stations identified for installing platform screen doors
Bengaluru: Close on the heels of Metro passengers falling accidentally or jumping on to the tracks, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has decided to install platform screen doors (PSDs) at two operational stations.
The stations chosen for the initiative, based on their high footfall, are Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Interchange at Majestic and Sir MV station, Central College.

The Majestic Interchange is used by more than 2.7 lakh passengers daily, including those changing trains.
According to a written response by BMRCL to issues raised by Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya, out of the 61 operational Metro stations in the city, two have been selected for the installation of PSDs in the first phase. Undertaking retrofits in operational stations is time-consuming and hazardous from a safety view point and has to be carefully planned and executed. This is proposed to be undertaken utilizing the services of experienced firms with proven experience in retrofitting of PSD in Metro stations, the BMRCL response reads.
For upcoming Metro projects involving unmanned trains, BMRCL is seeking the necessary fund provisions for the lines, including the airport line.
Regarding last-mile connectivity, BMRCL stated that currently, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates 178 buses from 38 stations on 48 routes, with 2,393 trips a day. BMRCL also plans to approach BMTC for providing corporate shuttle services.
On inadequate parking facilities at Metro stations, BMRCL replied that at present, 1.1 lakh sqm of parking space is available at 53 Metro stations, accommodating 14,675 two-wheelers and 2,654 cars.
In response to Surya's suggestion to popularize the usage of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for multiple purposes such as Metro commute, paying fare for feeder services, and parking, BMRCL stated NCMCs are already available at Metro stations. Further popularization of the card will be possible once transit modes like BMTC are also integrated, which BMRCL is continuously following up on.
