THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The national BJP leadership chose technocrat-turned-politician Rajeev Chandrashekar as the new state chief of the party. The official announcement will be made on Monday by the party leadership.
The decision of the national leadership on the new state president was communicated by BJP Kerala Prabhari Prakash Javdekar in the core committee meeting held in the state capital on Sunday.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar was a union minister of state in the second Modi govt. He was a three-time Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is becoming the state president of the BJP with two decades of political experience.
The national leadership is presenting Rajeev as the face of developmental politics in these changing times.
Rajeev contested against Shashi Tharoor in the last Lok Sabha election in Thiruvananthapuram and put up a tough fight against Tharoor. Rajeev, who garnered an absolute majority in the four Assembly constituencies under the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat, was defeated by just 16,077 votes.
Ever since Rajeev contested from Thiruvananthapuram, he has been concentrating on state politics and has been involved in major issues of the state capital. There was speculation that he was concentrating more on state politics under the directive from the national leadership.
