Jaipur: The
Rajasthan education department will launch
oral reading fluency assessments for students of Classes 3 to 8 in all govt schools from this academic session. The initiative aims to improve Hindi reading and comprehension skills among students, many of whom struggle with basic literacy.The assessments will begin in July and focus on evaluating students'
reading fluencyand comprehension. A passage will be read aloud by each student, recorded, and analysed using AI software. The software will categorise students based on pronunciation and reading speed, particularly words read per minute. The assessment will follow a four-level classification system and suggest remedial measures."Activities to check the oral reading fluency of students in govt schools will start in July to assess the reading and comprehension levels of students.The aim is to strengthen reading and understanding skills in primary classes so they can keep up with the expected learning level in higher classes," said director of secondary education Ashish Modi.
