Vasai couple dies in road crash while on Philippines trip

Jerald Pereira and Priya Pereira, a couple from Vasai, tragically died in a road accident in the Philippines on May 10th while vacationing. Their trip to a waterfall turned fatal when a truck, attempting to overtake, collided with their two-wheeler in Badian municipality.

VASAI: A couple from Vasai, Jerald Pereira (50) and Priya Pereira (46), was killed in a road accident on May 10. in the Philippines. They had gone on a vacation to the Philippines on May 5, and were on the way to a waterfall when the accident took place, said a member close to the family. The family also informed TOI that the Indian Embassy has been approached for help and the process to bring their bodies back to India in the next couple of days is currently underway. Jerald is reported to be working on a ship, while Priya was a teacher in a Mumbai-based school. They are survived by their parents and their two children — a 20-year old son pursuing veterinary course in a Gurgaon college and a 17-year-old daughter studying in a Vasai college.The Philippines police report said the locals called the cops around 12.55, immediately after the crash, which happened at Badian municipality area, a province under Cebu. After reaching the spot, cops detailed that the Indian couple, who was on a two-wheeler, was hit by a truck which was travelling in the same direction. While overtaking, the truck changed lanes but couldn't complete the overtake due to an on-coming vehicle and rammed the couple's two-wheeler. Due to the impact, the duo were thrown onto the parked vehicles. Police confirmed that while Priya was declared dead on spot, Jerald was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
