Spinach is probably one of the easiest leafy greens to grow at home, and it also grows pretty fast-- so that is an added advantage. Spinach can be grown with seeds, will grow and spread even in shallow containers, but make sure it gets at least 3 hours of sunlight daily.

Methi leaves too are the perfect leafy vegetables to grow in balcony gardens. They need small pots and spaces, can be grown easily with cuttings, and can also produce roots when the right cuttings are put in water.

Amaranth is a common leafy green in Indian kitchens, and can be grown in the balcony garden with ease. Just make sure you have a big enough rectangular pot instead of the circular one, and keep it somewhere it will get 2-3 hours of sunlight.

Be it in the balcony garden or in the small kitchen garden, Dhaniya, or coriander leaves, can be grown in both spaces. Just lightly crush some coriander seeds to split them in two, then sprinkle them around in the pot with rich soil. Soon, you will have fresh leaves to harvest.

Mint needs minimal maintenance, and it will fill your balcony with aroma and freshness. Even if you run out of space for soil and pot, Mint can be grown and rooted in just water.

Basil (not Tusli, but Italian Basil) is quickly becoming a staple in Indian homes. From soups to pasta dishes, Basil is added to them all. To grow Basil, buy seeds from the nearby nursery, plant them in cocopeat-rich soil, and make sure they get 2 hours of sunlight daily.

Curry leaf plants grow more slowly than others, but once they start producing leaves, they last for years. Make sure the plant gets both sunlight and water regularly, and if you want quick results, it is best to buy a small plant from the nursery.

Carom leaves, also called ‘Ajwain patta’ are another variety that will fill the balcony with a spicy, fresh aroma. These too can easily be grown in the garden, and can be harvested fresh to add to vegetables and curries.
